Rural Osoyoos Area 'A' Temporary Open Fire Ban Rescinded

UPDATE: Temporary Open Fire Ban RESCINDED effective Thursday, Oct 9, 2015

Due to the change in the season within our region, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is rescinding the Temporary Open Fire Ban at 12 noon on October 9, 2015.   The temporary open fire ban included open fires, campfires, and fires in portable wood burning fireplaces within the RDOS Fire Protection Areas, defined as Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Keremeos, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Tulameen and Willowbrook Fire Areas.  This rescind will also be in conjunction with the municipalities of Penticton, Summerland, Oliver, Osoyoos, Princeton and the Village of Keremeos.

The public is encouraged to continue to restrict their campfires to not larger than half-metre by half-metre in size and have a hand tool such as a shovel or at least eight litres of water nearby to extinguish it.

Remember, never leave a campfire unattended and make sure the ashes are completely cold to the touch before leaving the area.

Rural Osoyoos Area 'A' Temporary Open Fire Ban REMAINS in Place

Although BC Wildfire Service has rescinded the campfire ban on those lands which fall within their provincial fire jurisdiction, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen’s (RDOS) temporary open fire ban, which includes campfires, remains in place for those lands which are contained within the RDOS Fire Protection Areas, which include the Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Keremeos Naramata, Okanagan Falls, Tulameen and Willowbrook Fire Area, [including Rural Osoyoos - Area A].

The RDOS, in conjunction with the municipalities of Penticton, Summerland, Oliver, Osoyoos, Princeton and the Village of Keremeos has determined that due to the current weather conditions and fire risk, the ban should remain in place.

This ban includes all open fires, including campfires and fires in portable wood burning fireplaces.  The ban does not restrict fires in stoves using gas, propane or briquettes.

Provincial Parks and Campgrounds are Crown Land and fall under the authority of the BC Wildfire Services area.

Please check to see if you fall within the RDOS fire service area at http://www.rdos.bc.ca/news-events/eoc/current-eoc/.
