EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Building Inspector Open Until Filled

Are you ready to apply your building construction expertise and building code knowledge in a way that contributes to quality buildings and construction? Are you prepared to broaden your knowledge and involvement in all aspects of the building inspection process? If so, this may be the job for you!

The Resort Municipality of Osoyoos, BC, located in the beautiful South Okanagan Valley, is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector.

Position Information

The Planning and Development Services Department is looking for an experienced and customer service-focused individual to join the planning and development team on a full-time basis. As a member of the team, you will review building and construction plans, issue building permits, and perform on-site building inspections.

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Planning, you will ensure that design and materials used during the construction, renovation, and alteration of buildings within the Community are compliant with the provisions set out in the BC Building Code, specifically Part 9, BC Plumbing Code, Osoyoos' Zoning Bylaw, and other municipal bylaws, policies, and procedures.

You will have completed grade 12 and possess a Diploma in Building Technology from a recognized technical institute or you will have experience at the journeyman level in one of the building trades. You will also have BOABC Level Two Certification (inclusive of the Plumbing Level One Certification) or you will have passed the BOABC Level Three examination with certification pending upon completion of the four years' work experience requirement. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license, a clean driving record, and Police Information Check are required.

The Town is currently experiencing unprecedented growth. The building inspector position provides an opportunity to further your skills and experience in plan checking and inspections for multi-family dwellings, commercial buildings, and mixed-use developments.

This position is a full-time unionized position that is 35 hours/week. The hourly rate is $39.26 - $43.61, plus an attractive benefits package. This position provides an opportunity to advance to the Senior Building Inspector position in the future.

Osoyoos is situated in a unique and special environment that includes the warmest freshwater lake in Canada and the warmest annual temperature. It is Canada's only true desert with the lowest annual precipitation and Sonoran Desert flora and fauna. Surrounded by stunning vistas, beautiful vineyards, fabulous golf courses and other outdoor amenities, it is an extraordinary area to visit, play in, and live.

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply online or by email with a letter of interest and resume. The posting will be open until filled and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until a suitable candidate is hired.
