Council Meeting Highlights for October 5, 2015

Committee of the Whole  Regular Open

• Water Conservation Metering Assessment – Urban Systems presented by Jacob Scissons and Peter Gigliotti.
• We Day 2016 presented by Mr Miller and students from the Osoyoos Elementary School

• Water Management and Staged Restrictions Bylaw 1273/Bylaw 1241 Irrigation Districts 8 & 9 - Council approved returning to normal water use practices. Click here for more information.
Staff to research the feasibility of using the level meters on the pumps to measure the levels of water in Town aquifers and furthermore bring aquifer levels (data) back to Council to assist in determining future water restrictions.

• Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 1313, 2015 – First Three Readings

• City of Nelson Community Voters Challenge - Look into finding the stats of how many have voted and perhaps the local newspaper can put an article in and have everyone in the community encourage everyone to vote.
• We Day support request from Osoyoos Elementary - Council approved $1,000 to offset the costs of the We-Day trip and approve the use of the bus with appropriate insurance in place.

Councils’ Reports
• Museum Society Board is looking for Board members and volunteers.
• Encourage people to google We-Day and get more information.
• Recently attended a joint Council meeting with the Osoyoos Indian Band.
• Airport Steering Committee will be meeting later on this week.  Committee consists of representatives from the RDOS, DO, Town, Airport Society and OIB.
• Small business week October 19 - 23
• UBCM Convention met with Minister Shirley Bond (Tourism) – Resort Municipality Funding, Minister Suzanne Anton (Solicitor General) – Victim Services Funding, Premier Clark and Minister Polack (Environment) – National Park, Internet voting – was endorsed.
• October 19 is Federal Election Voting Day – encouraged everyone to vote.  Encourage young people of voting age to exercise this right.

The public is encouraged to attend the Committee of the Whole meetings which take place in Council Chambers at 9:00AM on the morning of the Regular Open Council meetings at 2:00 PM to learn additional in-depth information regarding upcoming business.
